1010 XL Enlivens Students at Neptune Beach Career Day

Lauren Rew and Intern R.J. Saunders represented 1010 XL on Friday, April 5, 2019, from 8:30-11:30 am at Neptune Beach Elementary School at their 2019 career day.

150 fifth grade students from the school were divided into groups and were able to learn about how they became interested and chose their particular career. Many students were excited to talk about their love of the Jaguars and tell Lauren and R.J. that their parents tune in to 1010 XL on their way to school.

While at the table they were also able to ask questions such as: “What’s the best part of your career?” “What’s a typical work day like with your career?” “Why did you decide to choose this career?” and “What would it take for them to get into this career?”

Lauren and R.J. handed out gifts to many of the children, and Neptune Beach Elementary was pleased to see the students so engaged and excited to learn about a career in radio. In addition, Lauren was happy that the school put on such an amazing event and that she was able to be able to help the students explore the idea of being in radio.

“I think it’s super important to be able to go back and talk to kids about career paths,” she said. “It’s absolutely important to reach out to the communities in the positions that we’re in.”

1010 XL Supports the Jay Fund Foundation Celebrity Golf Classic

Every Spring Tom Coughlin hosts the Jay Fund Foundation Celebrity Dinner, Auction and 18-hole Celebrity Golf Classic at the TPC Sawgrass Clubhouse. This year, the 24th annual event was held May 20 and 21, 2018. Dan Hicken and Jeff Prosser led the broadcast of 1010XL’s morning show “The Drill” live from the TPC Sawgrass Clubhouse Ballroom from 6 – 10am Monday, May 20.

The Jay Fund consistently hosts a very impressive line-up of celebrity guests, and this year was no exception. Tom Coughlin joined “The Drill” bright and early, sharing the inspiration behind his charity that raises money for families with children who have cancer.

Many former NFL players, coaches and sports figures were in attendance, such as John Fox, Chris Mortenson, Chris Berman and new Jaguars quarterback, former Super Bowl MVP Nick Foles. NFL Hall of Fame linebacker Tom Jackson was also in attendance.

The Tom Coughlin Jay Fund Foundation has donated millions of dollars towards its mission of providing financial and emotional support for Jacksonville-area pediatric leukemia and cancer patients, and their families. The Jay Fund aims to improve their quality of life through a variety of programs.

“I’ve said it before, championships are won by teams who love one another, who enjoy and respect one another and play for and support one another, that’s exactly the type of team we’ve assembled to support our local families tackling childhood cancer,” said founder, Tom Coughlin.

The Tom Coughlin Jay Fund Foundation was created in honor of Jay McGillis. Jay was a very special young man who played football for Coughlin at Boston College as a team mate of Tom McManus and developed leukemia. The courage, compassion and faith he demonstrated during the course of his illness were an inspiration to many people.

1010 XL Helps Raise Money and Awareness For Walk Off Charities

There are kids in Jacksonville have never had the chance to play baseball.

1010XL helped Walkoff Charities host its 3rd annual major fundraiser at Bragan Field at The Baseball Grounds of Jacksonville. The event, named The First Pitch, and presented by Bestbet, was held on a night proclaimed “Walk-Off Charities Day” in Jacksonville by Mayor Lenny Curry. The fundraiser and the event were created to increase opportunities to grow baseball on the First Coast.

1010XL actively supported Walkoff Charities and The First Pitch initiative on Friday, May 24, 2019. The Frangie Show (comprised of Frank Frangie, Hays Carlyon and Lauren Brooks) broadcasted live from Bragan Field from 3 p.m. to 7 p.m. The event included a Food and Beer Fest displaying some of the top restaurants and craft breweries in all of Jacksonville. Fans in attendance sampled food from some of the best restaurants in town, sampled beer from the city’s wide array of local breweries, and enjoyed a celebrity home run hitting contest. The contest included former Jaguars players, former professional baseball players, golfers, local media members, and even 1010XL’s Rick Ballou and Frank Frangie.

1010 XL Salutes Scholar Athletes

1010 XL is proud to support local high schools and colleges. During the school year 1010 XL honors Duval County high school scholar athletes.

Each week a Duval County student athlete is honored for excellence in the classroom and the sports arena. That student is featured in recorded promo that airs daily during the week, and they are honored in studio during a segment on the Frank Frangie Show Wednesday afternoons. The student athlete gets the spotlight shined on them when they are interviewed by members of the Frangie Show while their chosen family members watch from inside the studio.
