LAMM AT LARGE: Golfspeak pet peeve

I’m going to talk about something today that’s bugged me for about two decades, yet I’ve never talked about it publicly until now. It’s one of those little, meaningless things that just grates on me.

Don’t laugh, but why do golf broadcasters always say a putt breaks “left to right” or “right to left”.

A putt that breaks “right to left” breaks left, duh! Just say the damn ball moves left. Ditto for the declaring the ball moves “left to right”. The darn thing goes right, so say that and be done with it.

I don’t know who first made such a stupid comment, but, worse, are the clowns who kept repeating and made it part of golfspeak.

You can’t imagine how much better I feel getting that off my chest even if it is trivial beyond imagination.
