The Jacksonville Jaguars are entering their 25th year as an NFL franchise and with that “XL Primetime” on 1010XL is going down memory lane with some of the greats from the past 25 seasons.
John Henderson was drafted by Jacksonville with the ninth pick in the 2002 NFL Draft. In his eight seasons in a Jaguar uniform, Henderson combined for 489 tackles including 29 quarterback sacks.
Henderson made the Pro Bowl in both 2004 and 2006 and this week was named as the tenth best Jaguar in franchise history by Jaguars.com
“It’s just a big honor to be on the list,” Henderson told 1010XL. “I went out there and worked hard every day. I went out there and did what I was supposed to do and I just love Duval.”
You can’t say the name John Henderson in Jacksonville without thinking of fellow defensive tackle Marcus Stroud. Whether it’s Stroud and Henderson, or Henderson and Stroud, the two monster defensive lineman are connected at the hip by Jaguar fans.
Henderson was asked why his chemistry with Stroud was so good during their time together in Jacksonville.
“We just fed off of each other,” Henderson said. “I had to know what Marcus was doing and I had to know what he was thinking and that’s why we always hung around each other and communicated.
“I studied Marcus and he studied me. He knew my strengths and I knew his. All he had to do was give me a nod with his head and I knew he was coming inside.
“I loved playing with Marcus and I’m so proud of him and I’m just humbled right now.”
Finally, Henderson was asked about this upcoming season for the Jaguars and what his thoughts were when Jacksonville signed quarterback Nick Foles this off-season.
“I was praising Jesus when we got Nick Foles,” Henderson said. “I know the Jaguars history, how we just go up and down and I just wanted us to have a stable quarterback that’s going to be there and take us all the way and I just think he’s the quarterback to do it.
“With this Jacksonville Jaguar team, I’m going to make this prediction because I feel so confident because of what I’ve seen and being around these guys, and I’m always confident at the beginning of the season, so I think we are going to the dance. That’s what I believe and that’s how I feel about that.”
