With the 2019 college football recruiting cycle in the books it’s time to turn our attention to 2020. Jacksonville is full of talent in the 2020 class, with many prospects already committed to Power 5 programs.
Here is a look at some of the top defensive talent (listed alphabetically) locally entering the 2020 recruiting cycle.
Cornerback Miles Brooks: Brooks (6-foot-2, 171 pounds) is a four-star prospect from Trinity Christian.
The skinny: Brooks is among the top 15 corners in the country for the 2020 class and is also a top 200 overall talent nationally. Among the offers Brooks has compiled are Oklahoma, Virginia Tech plus Alabama, Florida, Georgia and many others.
Brooks and fellow Trinity Christian cornerback Fred Davis are two of the best corners in the country in the class of 2020
Cornerback Fred Davis II: Davis (6-foot-1, 182 pounds) is a four-star prospect from Trinity Christian.
The skinny: Davis is among the top 10 overall prospects in Florida and is a top 75 talent nationally in the class of 2020. Davis has offers from all over the country including Alabama, Clemson, Florida, Florida State and Georgia. Davis has also received offers from Tennessee and Texas over the last two months and he was in Clemson for a visit at the end on January.
Davis is currently the highest-ranked local prospect in the 2020 class according to 247sports.com.
Cornerback Tre’Vez Johnson: Johnson (5-foot-11, 175 pounds) is a three-star prospect from Bartram Trail High School.
The skinny: Johnson has compiled offers from three ACC program: Boston College, North Carolina and Wake Forest. Johnson is part of a cornerback class locally in 2020 that can rival any other city in America.
The 2020 class in the Jacksonville area will be thought of for the talent at quarterback, but the cornerback class may be the best single position in the city. There will be talent all over the defensive backfield on Friday Nights locally.
Cornerback Jahquez Robinson: Robinson, (6-foot-2, 180 pounds) is a three-star prospect from Sandalwood High School.
The skinny: Robinson is a top 40 cornerback prospect nationally and has already compiled offers from Alabama, Florida, Georgia and LSU. It appears the secret may be out on Robinson because in the last month alone, Robinson has added offers from Georgia Tech, Miami and Oklahoma.
With talents like Robinson and Florida State quarterback commit Jeff Sims, much is expected of Sandalwood High School in 2019.
Safety Donovan Thomas: Thomas (6-foot-2, 180 pounds) is a three-star prospect from Oakleaf High School.
The skinny: Thomas is among the top 50 safety prospects nationally and has a healthy list of offers including Boston College, Colorado State, Indiana and Kentucky. Thomas is joined on the Oakleaf defense by four-star defensive end Chantz Williams which gives Oakleaf two of the best defensive prospects in the state of Florida.
With talent like that, expectations for Oakleaf when the 2019 season kicks off will be high.
Defensive End Chantz Williams: Williams (6-foot-4, 235 pounds) is a four-star prospect from Oakleaf High School.
The skinny: Williams, who is considered to be a top 10 weak side end in the country, is also among the top 150 overall prospects nationally in the 2020 class. Williams has received offers from Florida, Florida State and Miami plus new offers for Williams have come in from Oregon, Texas and Texas A&M in the past month.
Williams joins his Oakleaf teammate Jalen Rivers to give the Knights two of the most talented prospects not only in the area, but in the state of Florida for the 2020 class.
