Baldwin High School is home to one of the area’s top rising prospects, Class of 2020 wide receiver Xavier McGriff. McGriff (6-feet-3, 182-pounds) is currently unranked in the 247Sports composite, but has the size and potential to catch the attention of top college programs.
Before even playing a snap of his junior season, McGriff has drawn offers from 12 schools including Oregon, Ole Miss, Virginia Tech, North Carolina and Boston College.
The early attention McGriff has received excites him.
“It means that I have the ability to play in conferences like the SEC or the ACC,” McGriff told 1010XL. “It inspires me to do better in the weight room, on the field and in the classroom.”
McGriff went on further about his goal of playing at a Power Five school.
“I hold SEC and ACC the highest,” McGriff said. “(PAC 12) is a great division. It’s a really great division. I just feel like I’d like to be on an elite stage, have more challenges and exposure, challenging myself against the greatest athletes in the country.”
McGriff noted again at his interest in Oregon, despite not being in the SEC or ACC, saying he has plans to visit this summer. Though when asked about his dream school, McGriff’s answer backed up his previous statement.
“I’m striving to get a Clemson offer,” McGriff said. “They’re producing a lot of great receivers that go to the (NFL). They also offer a major that I’d like to major in.”
While McGriff has already received a lot of attention, he knows that he still has work to do in his remaining high school years. For the next few months before his junior season, McGriff said he will be training hard his 7v7 team as well as attending camps.
